Reunited - July 28-30

It had been a long day of travel.  Despite the fun of meeting up with Margaret, the pull of leaving home behind was still strong.  The road up to the campground was winding and hilly and we were flat out tired.  We made it to the Army Corp of Engineers property and the Goose Point Campground on Philpott Lake in VA about 5:15 Sunday night.  And there they were, all settled in their site and waving us in.

If you have been with us before on our journeys, you may recall our friends Jack and Marcia (in their 5th wheel HOWDY) who we first befriended (over a beer introduction of course!) in Petrified Forest NP and have had numerous other journeys and experiences along the way.

We pulled into our site and wasted no time.  Acquainting our friends with our new rig, we were enjoying champagne and snacks within minutes.  We have arrived!  Jack and Marcia’s site was right on the lake while we were in the last available site, a handicap site with good bathroom access but no access to the lake.  We spent the evening catching up, eating, drinking and playing our standby games of RummiKub with plenty of competition.

After our night in the WalMart, our travels (and some alcohol!), we slept soundly and woke up late for our 8:30 am hiking date.  No worries, there were plenty of hours in the day!  We hiked the Little Mountain Falls trail at neighboring Fairy Stone State Park getting in 5 solid miles, a trickling water ”feature” vs a falls and then back to our site for lunch.

The afternoon was spent swimming and tube floating on the crystal lake with a clear sky.  The afternoon got cut a bit short when Jack stepped on a yellow jacket.  The dangers of bare feet and too much fun!

No worries, we shifted into happy hour and I cooked up some spaghetti and sauce before Rob broke out his guitar and sat outside to “entertain the neighbors”.  Great thing because it wasn’t minutes before one of those neighbors wandered up with his fiddle and we had great fun until the sun set over the lake and we all settled in.

Only two days into our new adventure and plenty to report.  Tomorrow we're back to a National park where some great memories promise to be made!  In the mean time, enjoy the video below!
